Wise King Solomon

Written by:

This week, our congregation is following the lectionary, and this week’s scriptures don’t have a theme that I found particularly compelling overall. The scriptures are 1 Kings 2:10-12 and 3:3-14, Psalm 111, Proverbs 9:1-6, Psalm 34:9-14, Ephesians 5:15-20, and John 6:51-58. Because we’re deep in the summer services, attendance will be a little lower than average at this point.

Since there wasn’t a powerful theme, I turned to a resource that I purchased at my local Mennonite bookstore, the Super Sized Book of Bible Coloring and Art. This is a fantastic resource, because although you have to pay for it, it has perforated pages and grants the original purchaser the right to photocopy from it. For this week, I chose the three pages that related to the lectionary scriptures, Solomon Asked for Wisdom, Wise King Solomon, and Solomon Prayed for the Temple.

Last minute, I added a couple of summer-themed additions to keep the next couple of weeks lively. I’ll print these for this week, but leave them out for the following week as well:

A summer patterning worksheet and a summer jokes codebreaker from Teachers Pay Teachers (free).

New Additions to the Fidget and Stim Toys

If you check out the page on Activity Table Basics, you’ll see that we provide a small box of fidget toys to borrow during service. Since these objects are small, and our congregation is large, they do get misplaced over time, so I decided to order a few new inexpensive additions. There is no budget for this ministry, but rather than make monthly donations to my church, I consider my small purchases to stock the table part of my financial contribution. Below are some of the items I’ve ordered, and once they arrive and I try them out, I’ll add some information to the Basics page about how they worked out!

All of these items were ordered from Ali Express:

In total, this order cost about $25, including shipping, for a total of 15 new toys to add to the box. The little poppers haven’t arrived yet, but the rest have, and they are super fun.
