Peace Sunday 2024

Written by:

On November 10th, our congregation will mark Peace Sunday along with other Mennonite churches with a service themed around reconciliation and healing. We will be welcoming Rula Khoury Mansour as a guest speaker for our sermon.

I also wanted to give a little shout out to an article in Canadian Mennonite from last week, by Cindy Wallace. She reflects on her practice of transcribing scripture in colour, which is so in the spirit of my activity table that I hope you’ll give it a read.

Obviously, as Mennonites, peace comes up a lot as a theme for us, so I decided to go back through these posts and see what peace-related resources I’d used before to avoid repetition. A few of those that I’d used before included:

Activity Sheets:

Craft:

Colouring Sheets:

This time around, I decided to use all new resources, which I’ve included below!

I have a great colouring sheet called Peace Begins with Me that’s from Painted Turtle Illustration in 2017. Unfortunately, the website is no longer online, so I’m not able to share the source of this resource, but I decided to start with that.

Bee a Peacemaker Bingo from Chronic Joy (free).

Topical Prayer Space: Peace from Visual Faith Ministry (free) – I included instructions on how to use a prayer space sheet on the back of this printout.

Finally, because of the guest speaker attending, I wanted to specifically include some resources on the ongoing conflict in Palestine. I found a great, free PDF explaining the Palestinian conflict to kids from Muslim Children’s Books. It was long, so I printed out two copies, but I also put a QR code on the activity table that linked to the book, so folks could access it that way.

I also found a free, all-ages, art-based lesson pack on Palestine from mint and bloom, and I chose five of the activity sheets in the lesson pack to include on the table.

November 7, 2024: Last Minute Addition

Given the outcome of the American election this week, I added one resource not included in the photos above that I’ll likely keep out for the next few weeks. It’s a free collection of colouring sheets provided by Illustrated Ministry that can be found here.
